My Top Nine Neutral Rugs
Lately I’ve been getting a lot of questions about our living room rug. And unfortunately, I am so sorry to say, that it is discontinued! Because of this, I thought it would be helpful to round up some similar rugs that you can ACTUALLY buy to put in your place!
But before we get to the good stuff, I just wanted to make a small comment on choosing the side of the rug for your space. We had a shag rug in our place before our current one, and it was an 8 x 10 - and our current rug, is a 9x12 - which frankly, at first, I thought was WAY too big. It was a sample/discontinued rug as I mentioned above, so I didn’t get to be picky about the size, so it was what it was. BUT, the larger size actually made our living space look WAY bigger.
I know what the standard rug rules are (all of the feet of your furniture should be on it etc, or at the very minimum, the front two legs of each piece) - but in a small apartment I don’t always feel like they really work. So, originally, to avoid the look of wall to wall carpeting (which, I’ll admit - it sort of looks this way now), I felt the right size for us was an 8x10. Technically this was not wrong; all front legs of our seating pieces could comfortably fit this way, but it wasn’t quite wide enough. Here is a comparison of the two rooms - the angles are not quite perfect - with the two different sizes. Big difference, right?
I wish I had taken the exact same angle of these photos - but it really did make a HUGE difference. If you want to see more photos at different angles, you can of course see them on my Instagram page, here.
But, all that is to say, whatever size you THINK you need, I’d suggest going one up. Having a rug that is slightly too big is WAY better than having a rug that is way too small. Just my two cents on that!
So, since our rug is discontinued, I’ve rounded up some similar rugs that I think could give you the same look. Enjoy!
If you happen to get one of these, or do already have one, I’d love to hear how you feel about it! Or, if you have a great recommendation that I missed, please add that too!
