New Project: My Office Space
You read that right - I’m starting another project!
So, this project came up sort of randomly. My desk has been a place of chaos for the last little bit - and I don’t mean in terms of mess - but just literal chaos of volume of work, so while I have spent a lot of time sitting there, I haven’t spent a lot of time looking at it. Do you know what I mean? I’ve been laser focused on the screen and have been avoiding looking around at the actual space!
Anyway, this past week I had added some fresh eucalyptus to my desk and it was feeling sort of cute and then I was like….you know what? I’m ready to change it up. I want it to ALWAYS look cute (and of course be functional), and I need to really rearrange it and put in a little bit of elbow grease to get it there!
About a year ago I got some paint from Home Depot and shared on my IG stories the process of painting the back wall and adding some extra details to it (you can find the slides on the process in my “life at home” highlight).
Anyway, at the time, it added a bit of that “extra” that I was missing from the space, but to be totally fair, I never really finished it! I never really found the right pieces to have in that space and I just never had the time to get it done.
At this time I was still working at my old job at that time, and wasn’t working at home full-time, so even though it did help the area a bit - I wasn’t using it as a proper desk, and the functionality piece was less important than it is now.
So, while the patio project has been at the top of my mind, this project managed to climb to the top of my priority pile because a) it’s been cold and rainy here and not a ton of patio-weather on the brain and b) because it just seems like a quick weekend update that would pack a big punch in my every day work life, as well as just, generally, aesthetically speaking!
So, let’s get down to it!
Here is what it currently looks like, for reference:
My original intent was to artfully cover the grid with images and inspiration - like a curated 3D mood board - but I never got around to getting prints done and really styling it. Since our ceilings are so very high, it wasn’t reasonable for me to do the colour for the entire height of the back wall, so I thought I’d cut it off just at about 3/4 of the height because a) that’s what I could reach and b) because it is impossible to cut in without a giant ladder, and we do not own one.
So, it has kind of sat in this dilapidated half-finished state but now that I’ve had some time to think it over - I’ve got plans!
The whole redesign was actually inspired by a pendant light that I fell in love with. You know how that happens - you see a piece that you just cannot get enough of - and it ends up being the focal point for the whole room. Anyway, this pendant was that for me.
Full disclosure - I reached out to this company (Light Work Design Co.) after being a long-time lover of their Etsy shop/person obsessed with their pendant lamps, and asked if they would be interested in working together. To my delight, they said yes and gifted me a plug-in pendant lamp I fell in love with to use in this space. I am so, so very excited to have this wonderful thing of beauty in my space.
Here is where my head is at:
And while I haven’t been able to find the PERFECT visual inspo for this project (that has a similar small, small, small scale to my little space, I did find these images on Pinterest that I enjoyed:
So, here are some of the changes I’m going to be making:
Back wall will be repainted cracked pepper
Only one metal grid will be used. Completely on the cracked pepper painted section so that it blends in. Brass clips will be used for artwork and other items.
Metal grid will be completely (and actually) re-styled with mixed items - prints, beautiful items, fabric samples (that work with the colour palette) and more!
I am feeling pretty excited about this little update, I’m not going to lie! I think it’s going to be a quick little project that is going to make a big impact! It feels like the perfect time to be doing this to be honest. My business is really getting to a comfortable place where I am really feeling confident to say, “I own a business!” which before used to kind of scare me, ha! But, it’s true - and I feel like making this little office nook a real part of the Style & Studio brand is an exciting and much needed step. Now, I’ve decided that with the reveal of this office space, will be the reveal of my website - which is MUCH overdue. But, client work comes first, you know? So, it’s been on the back burner for the finishing touches. But, when the space launches, the site will too and I am so excited to share it with you.
As always, would love to hear your comments and any feedback you may have!
Thanks for reading!
